💶

Monthly pocket money

€280–500 per month depending on country and hours, paid by the family directly. Plus they often cover transport and language courses.

✈️

Live abroad, learn a language

Spend 6–12 months in Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, France, or other EU countries. Improve your English, German, Dutch, French — whatever you want to learn.

Who can join

🇪🇺 EU passport

Required. We connect au pairs with families across the EU — your passport lets you move freely without a visa.

🎂 Age 18–30

Most host countries accept au pairs aged 18–26, though Germany and others allow up to 30 in some cases.

💬 English or local language

Conversational English is enough to start. Some families want German, French, Spanish, Italian — match what you speak.

📋 No experience required

Some childcare experience helps but isn't mandatory. References from babysitting, teaching, or younger siblings count.

How it works

See families across the EU. Filter by country, language, ages of children, and what they offer.

3

Message families directly

No agency in the middle. Talk directly to families you like. Video call before committing.

4

Sign a contract and travel

Use our free contract template. Agree on hours, pocket money, and start date. Most placements happen within 4–8 weeks.

Common questions

How much do au pairs really earn?

Pocket money is €280–500/month depending on country and hours. On top you get a private room, all meals, often a transport pass, and many families pay for a language course (~€50/month). Net: little out-of-pocket cost while abroad.

Do I need to pay an agency?

No. DearAuPair is 100% free for au pairs forever. No registration fees, no matching fees, no commission. The platform is paid for by host families.

Why do I need an EU passport?

We focus on placements within the EU where your passport lets you move freely without applying for a visa. Visa-required placements (US J-1, Australia, Canada) involve agencies, paperwork, and months of waiting — we don't do those. If you're not an EU passport holder, our platform won't work for you.

What countries can I go to?

Any EU member state. Most placements happen in Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Austria, and Scandinavia. You choose your preferred countries when you sign up.

How long does an au pair placement last?

Typically 6–12 months. Some families want shorter (3 months for summer) or longer (up to 24 months in some countries). You set your availability.

Is it safe?

Every host family verifies their email and credit card before joining. You can video call before committing, block and report any user, and all conversations stay on the platform with a record.
